eSeL´s Guided Tour
- Digital Communities in the 2nd viennese district -
Coded Cultures explores forms, methods and space of digital culture around the Viennese Donaukanal. The theme “City as Interface” focuses on productive interactions between technical possibilities and conditions of the surrounding urban public space.
Gentrification, city branding and cultivated hedonism clash with critical research positions of contemporary digital artists. eSeL´s Guided Tour offers a sensual and exciting, as well as critical view behind the curtains of selected venues and cooperation partners of the festival.
The tour analyses digital cultural practice as an ongoing process between medial publics and pragmatic realities: conditions of urban contexts are analysed and made accessible for individual forms and languages of art, to open up new (often only temporary) free zones in the meshwork of public interest, rules, and a subversive spirit of research.
